Konya Airport Information
Konya Airport is both a military airbase and a public airport, located not far from the city of Konya in Turkey. It is also used by NATO. The airport was opened to the public in 2000 and now serves around 700,000 passengers a year. It is currently undergoing expansion to increase passenger capacity and make it easy to fly to and from Konya.
The international and domestic terminals are housed in one terminal building with two floors handling arrivals and departures. There is a lift between the floors, a first aid station and check-in desks for the several airlines which operate in the airport. Hungry passengers will enjoy the single cafe which offers a variety of food, and there is also an ATM in the terminal. As with almost any airport of any size, the terminal is home to a number of car rental counters.
Flights from the airport are both domestic and international. Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines both fly to different airports in Istanbul, and Turkish Airlines, the country’s flag-carrier, also operates flights to Copenhagen in Denmark. Corendon Airlines, another Turkish airline which also has a Dutch branch, flies to Amsterdam.
The airport is 18 kilometres from Konya, a city of outstanding architecture and a friendly, small-town atmosphere. Taxis and rental cars can get you into town, or there is an airport shuttle between the terminal and the city centre. In Konya, the Mausoleum of Rumi is a must-see attraction, and there are many other museums and mosques which are visually and historically interesting. Trying some local delicacies is another important ritual for visitors to the city.
